Trans awareness week statement

I refuse to make the Tina movie, and I refuse to sing my original songs live.

The reason is simple: I don't want to make a film with bigots, and I'm keen to do a concept album of the 2030 score. Wellington has far too many people that actually sided against me.

Like, there's no way for them to come back. None of those people are willing to say to my face that they honestly believed Jake's account of the assault, and nor are they willing to state that they genuinely believed that I was a transvestic fetishist, enabling all those horrible statements of transphobia from right-wing people (like autogynephilia).

They'd never apply that lens to themselves, but they applied it to me. They want the film to be their apology so that they don't have to have an uncomfortable conversation, but I'd rather get a real one. - Repainting the crossing is a symbolic statement. I think everyone should agree on that. In fact, they could have announced it this week, but the Council doesn't seem to be making a huge amount of progress. I'd say that Wellington has been largely closed for business this week in anticipation of the hīkoi. The last time this many people were in town was the occupation of Parliament, so I think that the town is on tenterhooks to see how this goes. -

Very much enjoyed getting Gender Minorities Aotearoa emails this week. As I say, the crossing is a symbol of the growing success of the gay counterculture, and that's probably the best way to describe this rainbow turf war. The counterculture group - which is also the black group - are suddenly much more fashionable as society crumbles, and I think that sits awkwardly with the traditional gay venues and their traditional hegemony within the Wellington cultural hierarchy. I've never been to Pride, and J Day is freaking me out in terms of the size of the event. It might make for a good movie, but I'm suddenly hesitant to leave Wellington in case I go completely insane like my brother did.

What am I doing in the vocal harmonies?

Moving from chord-defined to melody-defined. This Boy - the original song - is a beautiful example of melody-defined. Plus all that Māori stuff. They almost never write it out. Even at my language co

I'm watching it slowly. One episode a day or so. What people really want to know is what I reckon of the AI. In a word, uncanny valley. Peter's budget dwarfs mine, but it's still similar. 3-5 second

Why don't I overdub everything?

Quality of the song alone and all that jazz... Yes, I can harmonise, but every hit song sounds essentially the same these days. It's like special sauce. The naked demos were distinctive. Again, it wa
