IM launch marathon: day 1

I've put it all together, and I'm watching along with all the other bigwigs. These are my notes from yesterday. - Marathon comments:

Ringo watched the original Our World broadcast live until their bit, but everyone else was too stoned. Sir David wasn't happy with two bits: the bit about reading and the bit about art as delight.

Art isn't perfunctory... The Tribal Eye responds to those allegations.

Our World is essentially a pacifist manifesto (echoes of AMPP lol).

Paul scoffed at Saturn V, saying that the moon thing was a war thing.

Scientists misled in the name of progress (my wording).

Couldn't bite the hand that fed the show...

Magical Mystery Tour - they made it back when LSD was legal.

Good lightweight 16mm cameras, but they couldn't do sync sound.

That's why there's all the musical interludes.

The film dramatises a real trip to Liverpool that the band took.

Yellow Submarine

The two main blue meanies are a parody of Paul and Ringo.

It grates that the band didn't do the Beatles voices.

It's essentially a feature film for the cartoon series. Who knew it would become such a classic?

The guys didn't have much faith in it...

As a psychedelic film, it's an odd duck.

Unlike Magical Mystery Tour, which Paul directed and Mike shot, it's made by alcoholics. - Bed Peace It's pretty crude, but surprisingly immersive. John comes off very well.
