People have been stubborn about this, saying things like 'accept Tina, and that will also double as our public apology, even though you're not keen to do it' Sorry, but that doesn't make up for 3-4 years of constant stalking, constant negging and constant judgement from people that were given what was essentially unlawful access to my private life. - I really think that Wellington owes me a HUGE apology.
That is what they need to do to get me to attend things.

A real apology that accepts that there was no justifiable reason for stalking me while I wanked. If there'd been a justifiable reason, I should've been charged so that I had things like access to a lawyer (and all the things that make real justice fairer than mob rule).
Imagine if I'd set up hidden cameras in your room, controlled your Internet access and told you that I thought that I had the right to do this based on unsubstantiated rumours about your sexual orientation.
Bear in mind these tactics are why I said no. -

The gay community has already received these public apologies and expungement.
That moment is coming for the trans community. The police aren't blameless in this saga: they didn't charge me, but they allowed this surveillance state to exist.
Here's how the process is supposed to go: Amanda breaks the rules; Amanda is spoken to by law enforcement, and then (if they deem it necessary) Amanda is charged with a crime. In this process, I have the ability to say no at every possible step. If I had been brought into the police station and interviewed, I would've had the right to remain silent, and the right to refuse to speak unless my lawyer was present. The police would have then had to actually present their evidence during the process of preparing for a trial. That's not what happened here: I was treated as guilty of being a paedo, even though I'm a virgin. That demands an apology. VUW and Red Scare,…
