No, you can't keep saying that I have to make Weeded Out. I intend to seek an injunction to shut you up. That's what will be going down in April and May. Or y'all could just give up today and save me a few thousand dollars... - I've proven that Mr. Barr, Mr. Cain and Ms. Tse didn't co-create the show. This was proven with time stamps. Given this, any funding they received was based on a lie. The industry can often wish to do something, yet fail to produce it. I'm sure every director and producer has a one that got away story. This is one of those instances. TVNZ wouldn't let Mr. Barr pull this shit. That's why he went to the Film Commission. - Toa should've asked to meet me. He shouldn't have presumed that Steve had the rights. Everyone in the film business chose to believe one person over another, even though many probably read this blog and my consistent refusals. Why? Because he was supposed to be a rainmaker. What's changed now is that Steve saw me play and win for much higher stakes. For the first time, Mr. Barr's finally discovered some respect for me. The big fish didn't see me coming, except Peter. If Mr. Mendes couldn't bully me into submission, what chance does he have? I expect him to apologise for his similar tactics. Given his conservative political leanings have been exposed, Steve's not really in a position to bargain over his transphobia. Give up to avoid a criminal charge. That's been my consistent advice to him. - I'm taking this whole saga to civil court. Getting an injunction shouldn't have been an issue. Toa, Don and Harry could've helped me to get one. Ultimately, though, Mr. Barr is a small fish. It's Mr. Seymour and Mr. Luxon that are likely responsible for the environment that fermented the threats and harassment. VUW has no choice but to settle. I'm not interested in any further 'hints' about studying. Six figures, acknowledging the transphobia they fermented. My answer to Wellington is that you couldn't spend enough time or money on ruining my life with the hate hui and ALL subsequent harassment, yet when the shoe is on the other foot and I want to hold a hui to roast my enemies, that's seen as unfair. Double standards. That's what this whole feud has been about. - It boils down to the 'meritocratic' conservative belief that they're inherently superior, which is a constant refrain in a field as masculine as cinema. They thought that they had some inherent right to alter, adapt and pitch my script. They did this while I was in a rough patch. They did this to ensure that they would get paid if the series was produced. They didn't meet me. They didn't show any sense of awareness of my mental health, except to denigrate me in the corridors of power. They didn't sign an option agreement or purchase my spec script. They lied and said they did, and NZFC staff didn't think to check their paperwork. That's the problem with a high-trust industry. Happens to everyone, but only since Apple Corps got involved have I really been able to push this towards the bin so I can make my short films. - I didn't try to steal their script or songs. I didn't attach myself to a project of theirs. I didn't use pornographic images (with rare exceptions) to troll them. I didn't conceive a serious blackmail or extortion attempt. I rant on my phone, and that was somehow more dangerous? I'm an activist protesting unfair laws via civil disobedience. They're the powers-that-be using their resources to pick on me for doing so. It's sorta obvious who should win this war. I'm not interested in crocodile tears, which is why I've laid out a very careful plan for the apology hui (ceremony/meeting). They tell me how much they earned, both directly and indirectly, from the hate war. They say sorry to my face and sign a liability statement. The media gets an hour or so to interview me. Then it's over, and we can all get rich via the Beatles.
At the core, it boils down to this: gay men of a certain age don't have the inherent right to tell gender-diverse people how to be or what's 'acceptable.' There's lots of older gay men who feel sympathetic, but are still socially conservative, and constantly victim blame the trans community. They're not being assaulted or harassed, so it's quite annoying when they decide to harass me and/or cover up assaults. Those types keep telling me how rich I could be as an androgynous man. My belief is that they're attracted to men, not trannies, so it's for their benefit. I am what I am, to quote a gay anthem. They should have respected that. I'm not telling them to stop having sex with guys...
