Here's an idea that I had for the theatre people: when I was first getting into Dave's anti-fashion philosophy, it struck me that if the designers create garments the performers could walk around in, then it's a great way of generating cheap publicity... I mean, look at my success from only a handful of proper guitar performances on the streets in gaudy outfits! The outfits themselves are a great way of attracting attention for introverted people; if it's eccentric enough, people are usually too freaked out to ask invasive questions, which is a win. I'm not all that annoyed the opera people ripped me off (though I like to mention it), but including my songs in their vision was too much for me to swallow, so I packed a sad. - The Knight costume was a similar success re: fashion. People dug that, and I gather that some of the Bad Man sketches were similarly shocking... as I said, using swastikas was controversial, and one of the sketches that was cut (and I've never seen) was Aidin Ralfe playing a suicidal person about to jump onto the Wellington motorway, and Ben Zolno a passer-by sucked into his drama. The way Stephen told it, we had permission to film there, but the cops weren't too happy. I've appreciated the support from the Welly Council -- we've made projects while 3 different Mayors were in charge -- but I'm really keen to do a story which is nationwide rather than another Wellington thing. I don't love Wellington anymore; I think Covid was very beautiful and poetic in Welly, but the last few years it's felt like the city is slowly imploding. - PS: I forget if I published the tape where I said this, but it felt like Auckland was totally over Covid since the floods, while Wellington remains mired in Covid-era vibes.
My book isn't for sale; I haven't written it yet! But it's my plan, both to vent about the things that the soap opera screenplay wasn't able to (even though people hated it, I thought it might sell, and I was trying to spare Michelle's feelings), and also my way of putting the best of my blogging career into print. That's not really my main focus currently, though, which is this video I want to do next month. I hasten to add that the black screen effect simply makes me seem like a better musician: the sight of me is baffling, but the sound is very solid. That's how I know I'm not pretty. Or possibly that I'm too pretty... either way,…
