It's an apt comparison. In both versions, the real Beatles aren't doing the voices.
Even some of the recordings in Yellow Submarine are covers.

The difference is that the 2026 version doesn't pretend to have a narrative.
What people see as a narrative is more like a semiotic web built around current events.
In terms of animation, it's like Yellow Submarine in that it's highly experimental.
Unlike Yellow Submarine, there's no rotoscoping or cel animation.
I've used those before, but Working For Each Other was done entirely in the computer.
AI film loops + scale effects + channel inverts arranged like a collage.
The skits are pitch-shifted. I didn't use any AI voices in the movie.
The flags are stock footage, and there's news clips in the film too.

Working For Each Other is a revue, while Beatles Invade New Zealand is a ballad opera.
It's my second of that type of movie revue. Amanda's Transtasia was in 2023.

Wellington Triptych has cel animation, and The Dakumentary has rotoscoping. The rotos used AI paint, but it didn't scale very well, so it's mostly the title sequence. Posterize and Motion Array did the bulk of The Dakumentary. There is one Runway ML sequence in Working For Each Other: the avocado head. The Dakumentary S3 uses Runway extensively.
