Really simple: I'm sick of those gimmicks. Mākutu is a joke on the audience, which associates Māoris with exotic sounds, even though the word means 'normal.' I'd expect Rameka or another guitarist to pantomime the whole thing in an OTT style. People will keep claiming my string writing is average unless it's pure. - In composition world, which is quite different to performer world, we tend to think that it's bad form to overuse your primary instrument in ensemble pieces. This is a string quartet, with 2 obbligato instruments in one movement. - My body and my guitar aren't available to classical institutions until they say sorry. Turning my private life into a reason to exclude me was pathetic.
