I wonder why it is that anti-gay, anti-trans people have sought out medical science as a path to deligitmise us? My gut says the modern wave of this started during the Reagan administration in the US and all that HIV/AIDS sentiment. For the anti-trans movement, my gut feeling is that they're a powerful lobby group in the UK, and that's where much of the negativity is spreading from. - Yes, I know that the US has several states that are going backwards on trans laws, but how many Kiwis or Australians give a fuck about what's going on in Mississippi? Most educated Kiwis and Australians are Anglophiles, so that's why I reckon they're so negative about people like me. - The irony of this is that most psychiatrists don't consider us to be deranged anymore, though it often feels as if public sentiment is against us. I was just talking with a friend, and I said that even though those anti-trans views are decidedly a minority within Wellington, it's easy to focus on that, as those are the people that have it in for me.
