something interesting

The cracked nail sucked, but it's an interesting sonic effect to have the fingernail vs. the flesh. It softens the index finger strum, and it sounds slightly sweeter.
I was thinking of filing the other nails down so everything matched, but it sounds good.
Could be an interesting effect, like the way Tony Rice alternated flatpicking with fingers.

From my emails:
"I would encourage a friend who is struggling with depression to:"
Fuck, I don't know. I'm not good at handling my own depressive phases. If you read the Herald every day, of course you think the Nats are going to win... I spent $5 to read the Herald over dinner, and it was mostly bumming me out.
I find that reading is often helpful when I'm depressed. My Mum told me that I should read, even if my mind feels mushy, and ensure that I'm reading every sentence - noticing each time that my mind wanders, and re-reading until I've read the whole page thoroughly.
The Assistant was a breeze to re-read, though; that's what I love about Malamud's books. I've got The Natural with me: I love that film, but I've never read the novel.
