I hadn't heard that before - I had a CD which had some of his pieces and Anthony Ritchie's, but I haven't heard all his symphonies.
Ross gave me one piece of vocal writing advice during a Nelson conference that was really good, though: setting female voices above the E a tenth above Middle C is when the diction becomes difficult.

Review: it's a great piece. The vocal writing is solid .. there's lots of NZ pieces that kinda sound like this, but this is the best one I've heard so far. I vaguely recall a cantata which I saw in my first year of school: one of the NZSM lecturers was the soprano soloist. That was one of those NZSO nights dedicated to new music, and I think I got a free ticket or something (because nobody goes to those). 🤣
