Question Time 22.6.2023

Writer: Amanda RiddellAmanda Riddell

Tuned in halfway through -- I was practicing my scales. 🙂 2:26pm - Question 5. - 6. Upston to Sepuloni jobseeker question .. typical Nats bs. Apparently unemployment will peak at 200,000 people in 2025. This is so stupid -- full employment isn't actually possible according to economists. - 7. Coffey to Henare Tourism industry transformation. Pivoting to a climate-resilient version of tourism. The carbon cost of flying is probably the main problem for NZ as a future tourist destination... and he's just mentioned it! 🧠👍 hmm - that's interesting. Apparently the plan is to manufacture our own aviation fuel. - 8. ... bald National guy to Verrall Mental health question. Doocey - isn't he their drug law reform spokesperson too? Gary reckons he's very savvy about mental health, but isn't really knowledgeable about drugs. My interpretation: the health sector is hiring, but it's still chronically understaffed. - 9. Omer to Mahuta Travel bans for 55 Iranian officials. - 10. Simmonds to Tinetti Polytech question -- that's a change of pace. 👍 The draft Te Pūkenga deficit for 2022 = $86 million. $18 million higher than the estimate. - 11. Ngobi to Webb 1. Commerce Commission study into retail banking. 2. Grocery Industry Competition Bill passed through the House yesterday. 3. Draft bill on consumer data rights - for switching to other banks/services. - 12. Hipango to Davis More Oranga Tamariki sexual abuse allegations. Another question where the National Party are poking at procedural failings from Labour - it's like the political equivalent of gotcha journalism. 🥝 Elizabeth Kerekere had some good supplementary questions.
