I'm Polynesian, and you don't really get what that means. There are pale-skin alleles in Polynesian genes that have nothing to do with Europe. Combining those with Celtic heritage creates a certain look. That's the look I have, or that Don has. That's what the Tūrehu had, plus they lived for centuries in Aotearoa. It's possible that they settled in the South Island first, then moved north. My view is the theory that NZ was safe for people is a load of crap. It took a much larger landing force to wipe out the endemic predators. Even if I wasn't a paler-skin Māori, a close friend of mine is a famous Māori anti-fashion designer, so it's not like I'm faking the style or appropriating it or whatever.
