My interpretation of VUW's decisions about funding was that they essentially plan to dismantle the conservatory aspects of the NZSM and replace it with a more generic US college-style 'music' paper. That's why I said 'split priorities' - the Town Hall idea was the opposite idea, which was doubling down on the NZSM as a music conservatory. The guts of it: a lot more post-grad musicologists and composers, and far fewer
performers. - To VUW: I will not collaborate with you. I may have a good script, but I do not wish to promote you as an institution. That's me saying no. I'm proudly indie, though it'd be nice if NZ on Air or someone wanted to fund my documentary ideas. Next time, pay me upfront rather than sort-of expecting I'd come to you because I used your name in the script - as I clearly stated, I was more than willing to use other locations.
To Michelle C: this is part of why we're not close friends anymore. That's what that rant I sent you from last year was about (with some hindsight): now you work for them, so I can't be that sort-of close with you, and that's why that video triggered me.
I'm similarly ambivalent about RNZ Concert or the NZSO. I feel like if I worked for them, that'd be working for the enemy, while I didn't feel that way about the RNZ National program or RNZ Pacific.
