Doesn't need updating. It's a brilliant slice of life. Like those About Face dramas: the cheapness is part of the effect. Steve Barr is just being a typical American studio hack, presuming that everything is better when it's done with state-of-the-art movie cameras (and gets him paid). As we all know, films are largely criticised for being escapist fantasies, while documentaries are ways of promoting understanding. Steve's version of my story was escapism for rich cunts, not The Wire. AMPP intends to produce a documentary that captures the community of the 2020's. Portrait of a Knight was a response to presentism, while he's unconsciously reifying it. The modern non-binaries don't understand the transvestite/transsexual world, but that's largely because their US college philosophies superceded our Indigenous ones. - If they find it cringe now, they need to think about the era which it was made in. Homosexual law reform required bravery, while trans law reform requires cunning. Bravery is enough when there's a sizable lobby group of several percent, but the trans* community is continuously overlooked and condescended to (eg Steve bullying me). We need to force the issue, which is what I've been doing IRL.
