Obviously, but it's a different situation. A pandemic means isolating people, but any productive industry is essential, so it has relatively little impact on industry.
A fuel crisis means that plants can't produce items. In NZ, that's a minor risk, but we're especially vulnerable when it comes to transporting goods.
That includes exporting goods. It'd be a shitshow within 3-6 months.
People can't do things if we're in Great Depression economic conditions.

People can still do things, as long as they use public transport and electric appliances.
Cars are still the easiest lever to pull.
I pitched that we ban all cars for a day or two a week.
As long as the economy turns over, we'll all survive.

Ultimately, like the lockdowns, it'll only last a couple of months (barring a major change).
I'm in a slightly cynical mood. US ground troops are almost certainly going to be deployed. Trump was hoping to palm it off on France. Securing the Strait requires a ground deployment.
