That's one of the tools that I used to create the Reo Māori dialogue for Shipwrecked.
I started with my limited vocabulary, then went to Te Aka; tried to form a sentence, and saw how it had been translated. Hori talks about this strange Māori-English fusion that happens when you're switching between the languages: it was funny to see it represented so literally!
Google nails VSO (Verb, Subject Object) much better than I can, and it's also a way of checking Te Aka. Te Aka has both the old and new reo, while Google seems like it's more current, so it's a good way of checking if the word really means what the dictionary says.
