When I was a student, Paul Wolframm mentioned that he didn't really see the point of symphonic movie scores. He said that a bunch of jazz musicians could improvise a cue in 15 minutes, while it might take a composer hours. I disagree: it depends on the movie, but it's a good point to keep in mind for the young filmmakers.
