me vs. my brother: I re-read Symbalah last night, which is one of Stephen's scripts that the NZ Film Commission shat all over.
That one never really went anywhere, but his other one, Your Fair Face, was well into pre-production before the occupation and all that jazz.
Symbalah is quite a good script imo.

I definitely think there's an element of personal animosity towards us that made it difficult for Riddell Productions to break into showbusiness the conventional way; we were just making it up as we went along with our radical Facebook ideas!
However, I think it's also indicative of a generational shift that we became well-known via social media - YouTube is also social media - despite our totally eccentric methods of doing that.
There's a sweetness to my brother's songs that isn't a big part of my songs, which tend to be romantic or sarcastic (and ideally both!).

If I hadn't done the weed thing, I probably wouldn't be so well-known, but it also resulted in years of paranoia and trauma that make it hard for me to go to random gigs or network the way that most people do.
This is easier for me.
