Wāhine toa

Now, this might get me lynched, but has it ever struck anyone else that a lot of these wāhine hide behind the imagery and symbolism of the wāhine toa, but they actually behave like a bunch of selfish people looking out for themselves? Tory Whanau being an example, obviously. Darleen Tana as another. I think that there is a statement of privilege about the moko, and most of us Pākehā's aren't really clued-up enough to tell the difference between the various moko. - I'm not really trying to defend Chloe from the accusation that she's racist (yes, really, people really say that). This is more of a statement that I've had a fair number of those fat, middle-aged ladies treat me as window dressing, and that's all that they see me as. - Debs on the other hand is very real. She's definitely got an element of showmanship about how she conducts herself in the House and on the tiles, but outside of that she's quite relaxed. - Good thing this is on my blog, which nobody reads (or so they say ... I find it sorta hard to think that I'm 'famous' unless people read it).

What am I doing in the vocal harmonies?

Moving from chord-defined to melody-defined. This Boy - the original song - is a beautiful example of melody-defined. Plus all that Māori stuff. They almost never write it out. Even at my language co

Why don't I overdub everything?

I'm serious: Salina, Peter Walls, Michael: you have to give up on me. Socialise in ANY OTHER CONTEXT, but I refuse to set foot on the VUW campus.

Paul and Bernard: tell them to give up. I'm sure Tory and the Chancellor are in cahoots, but they must cease. I will not accept another outcome: VUW ceases or we spend summer in court.

Something positive about Tory: yes, there's been plenty of new bike lanes built. It's not all bad, but she hasn't solved the productivity issue: big problem, but I don't think that the Council really has a good solution to it. I mean, music venues and after-hours clubs and bars are important, but ultimately it's a government town and the government is cutting thousands of public sector jobs. It's a university town as well, but VUW cut 12 arts and language programmes, including the (yes) music and theatre departments, in order to avoid selling property that they own in the CBD of Wellington. And they still had to sell some anyway ... that's how cooked their finances are, and that's why script is…
