Why no Instagram?

Writer: Amanda RiddellAmanda Riddell

Well, honestly I'm a dinosaur (despite my youth) and social media baffles me, though I was able to become a hit online. Jeffery told me that Instagram crops images, so that was part of why. Facebook is a very utilitarian platform: there's few other platforms that offer as much functionality, like uploading videos of any length, such as my feature films that I've advertised on FB. I realise that I could DM Chloe Swarbrick from Instagram, but I'd rather not. At this point, the ball is in her court: if she wants to approach me to chat, that's up to her. - I've got plenty of reasons to be at Parliament this year. Census comes out in May 2025, as does the Law Commission review on the gender identity and expression law that I'm rather keen on changing. Counting Ourselves too... is that due this year? Debbie's in charge of that Bill now that Elizabeth has left Parliament, so it's a Te Pāti Māori victory if we win. I confess that I've put off reading Elizabeth's thesis on takatāpui, but I'll get around to it. - Previous MPs that have attempted to change this law: Georgina Beyer and Louisa Wall. That suggests that it's a rather important issue for trans communities that the general public isn't really aware of. https://www.parliament.nz/media/7834/human-rights-prohibition-of-discrimination-on-grounds-of-gender-identity-or-expression-and-variations-of-sex-characteristics-amendment-bill.pdf - Plus there'll probably be a reading of Elizabeth (now Debbie's) Member's Bill in 2024. So, with that perspective in mind, my trans protest continues. I'm chuffed that Newsroom decided to ape my ratings system while evaluating the 100 day plan! 😅
