Why do I work in my room?

Public space opens up far more opportunities for manipulation and spies. Ironically, Parliament itself is a fairly secure working environment. All it takes is one SIS person or one disgruntled friend of my enemies. They can try to control me or manipulate me (see Silent Vigil 2). I've got all the tools I need: my laptop and my guitar. - Yes, even in the boarding house I'm fairly sure that they've planted people. My room is reasonably secure, though they've planted a hidden camera.
Their whole scheme goes like this: 'you behave abnormally, and that's wrong.' That's their trick: gaslight me into thinking I'm hated by everyone, not just them. There's a crucial difference between abnormal and illegal. Civil disobedience, mild disruption, typing in my room: all legal activities.
