There is no autotune on any of my vocals, ever. I've got a very good ear. I didn't read the sheet music for any of those Beatles arrangements. Just chord sheets. I'm not some McCartney impersonator: I'm a legitimate classical composer. Started as a virtuoso guitarist, then got into musicals and apprenticed with Sondheim. Paul loves my work because he's a jazz musician at heart, and so am I. While Jacob Collier is very inventive, he's not in my league.

Paul's test for anyone claiming to be a great pop writer is simple: do all the parts yourself. That includes backing vocals which lock perfectly. Dave Grohl and I are some of the very few who passed that test. Michael Jackson and myself are pretty much the only covers of his that he respects.
