I remember Mr. Seymour saying something along the lines that he plans to cut all domestic film subsidies... dunno if that made it through the coalition negotiations. A musician friend told me that Brooke trained as an opera singer, so I was wondering if she or David had any opinions regarding the NZSO or NZ Opera? - The film industry is much larger, but domestic subsidies aren't so significant. I mean, if I read the figures right, the NZFC gives out roughly $37 million in money for local films. I'd imagine that the NZSO + NZ Opera + various theatre groups adds up to that same amount. For those that are wondering, the screen sector = $3.5 billion NZD Arts sector = $2.38 billion NZD. https://www.aut.ac.nz/news/opinion/time-to-rethink-arts-funding-in-nz I'm guessing there's some crossover, but I think people take those as different numbers. - Why am I asking? Because I've spent over a decade being told that films aren't as classy as live classical, and that's really starting to fucking piss me off. 😠 If you're cutting subsidies in one field, surely it follows that you'd cut them in another? I mean, from my perspective, I'm the one being told that I 'must' perform in order to generate ticket sales from the music that caused me to leave the cloistered circle of wankers in order to realise those pieces properly. My synth tracks are fully realised, and it's a bonus that Pan is also legitimately orchestrated and actually performable. My synth tracks = my rise to fame, and that is actually like Don. They're the ones who have never had a funding decision go against them, have tenured positions at our (failing) universities, and are patronising and insulting about my path, as well as disagreeing with my politics and my views on arts funding. That's total and utter bullshit, and as libertarians I think that you might appreciate that I'm entitled to freedom of choice, freedom of expression and the right to earn a decent income from IP that is clearly valuable, regardless of whether the trannie performs it. I'm a real composer with a degree to prove it; I expect to be treated as such, despite their condescending opinions about my musicals and my compositional abilities. - This is my vengeful streak. To be fair, I've already spent several years criticising the NZSO on Rawiri's behalf. 👍
