If you think my notation is too 'basic', that's actually by design. I spent a significant amount of time at uni complaining that they were teaching us to produce notation that was overly technical. I literally rewrote Vanya's Lament after submitting it because the piece that I wrote wasn't the piece that I was playing, but I got an A thanks to that little piece of subterfuge. That was when I gave up on academic music. If you think my improvisations are more interesting than my notated pieces, you are more than welcome to think that, but I actually see those as something else. Roland Dyens was a fabulous improviser and also wrote down guitar music. - I'm sick of the casual insults and this 'improve to be Tina' bullshit. I refuse and that is simply my decision. I don't need to improve my skills: to paraphrase that Judy Collins film, my art is vocal composition, and that requires capable singers. I don't need to be a great soloist because I'm already a well-known filmmaker and composer. Those were my real goals. I don't need to be an actor because it drives me insane.
