I had the 420 session with the guys, so this is a little late. There was some anti-trans nut with a megaphone outside Parliament Grounds today: I laughed at him. 1. Willow-Jean Prime to Karen Chour WJP 6, KC 3 'Oranga Tamariki is child-centric' - Chour. 6.5% back office savings to invest in the front line... 'load of bollocks' - Gary 'Persistent leaking ... Oranga Tamariki is imploding under her watch' - Willow-Jean. Boot camps ... 'I don't agree we're going down a punitive road' - Chour. 2. Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke to Nicole McKee HPMC 7, NM 5 Justice questions ... 'on behalf of the Minister of Justice' Some spirited debate about Te Tiriti, then another pointless Winston supplementary. 3. Van Der Molen to Bishop TM 5, CB 5 'an orgy of punching down ... why are they doing a patsy question for the Minister of Finance when she's not even here?' - Gary. Ending the Auckland Regional Fuel Tax from next week. 4. Deborah Russell to Simon Watts DR 8, SW 4 'Every wage and salary earner will get their hard-earned tax relief' - Watts. Except for superannuitants, who might have to wait until April 2025. 'Another Minister struggling ... greasy little twerp' - Gary. 5. Ricardo Menendez March to Louise Upston RMM 8, LU 3 'charitable organisations [that] support disabled people' - Upston's characterisation of the people paying disabled workers $2 an hour. Carmel Sepuloni got quite angry during this question. Ricardo asked how the supplement could be negatively impacting on their businesses, given that it's paid to the employers. I don't think there was much of an answer to that. 7. Ginny Andersen to Karen Chour GA 7, KC 3 'Family and sexual violence is a focus for this Government' - Chour. Despite this, she hasn't set a target for reduction, even though the NZ Crime and Victims survey is able to measure the number of incidents. Also, something about the police taking fewer 111 calls for family violence ... I think that's what Ginny said. 8. Redmayne to McClay SR 5, TM 4 Patsy question about farmers. McClay trotted out the well-known myth that NZ farms are more efficient and environmentally friendly than our competitors. 'The dollar figures ... they always spend ages talking about the good stuff they've invested millions into, and much less time talking about the bad stuff that they've invested billions into' - Gary. 9. Lan Pham to Chris Penk LP 7, CP 4 This was intended for Tama Potaka, who was absent. Why did they cancel jobs for nature? 'work streams that were time-limited' - Penk. Then Winston said that Lan couldn't verify her facts, which Ricardo interpreted to be calling her a liar, though Gerry Brownlee didn't share that view. 10. Peeni Henare to Shane Jones PH 7, SJ 4 45% cuts to Matariki funding this year. There wasn't any advice that recommended this. Surprisingly, Gerry Brownlee was quite fed-up today, and even began to call Winston's questions for being out-of-order. There were some good laughs in this question. 11. Butterick to Penk MB 6, CP 6 Soft question about a review into earthquake-prone buildings. 12. Pryanca Radhakrishnan to Chris Penk PR 7, CP 5 Penk had the unenviable task of defending Potaka's statements in scrutiny week, where he said that we couldn't save all at-risk native species. Apparently, they've cut over $100 million from the Department of Conservation. 'We are focused on maximising the resources that we have' - Penk.
