Public lynchings

I'm watching Darleen Tana on TVNZ+ right now, and it struck me that Golriz essentially went through the same thing. This interview, in my opinion, is slightly suspect from an ethical perspective. I mean, if she hasn't technically been charged of a crime regarding migrant exploitation, then it seems slightly like Maiki is accusing her. However, given that she hasn't allowed the release of the executive summary of the report, Darleen's case appears pretty thin. - If there's one American trait that Kiwis have really picked up on, it's the confessional mode of essays and media interviews: grand gestures that are littered with 'I' statements and performative contrition. Which is probably why Q&A is so popular! - Trial by media is one of NZ's less savoury aspects... Peter Ellis being an obvious example, and the media censorship in the 1951 Waterfront dispute (that's where the 151 Days song came from). Without Newshub, it does feel like the two state broadcasters are virtually the only group that is benefiting from this insecurity in the media landscape.

It's tragic that all the reality shows are still running. I've seen a bulletin or two of ThreeNews: personally, I choose to avoid Newstalk ZB and the Herald.
