Presenting to select committee

Well, I was taking a shit, and I realised that those proposed changes to school curricula that are part of the National-NZ First deal are still regular law changes. So, my message to people is that the battle isn't over yet, and we can still save this if we all mobilise and form a strong opposition that relies on strong evidence. - What I realised: A proposed law change means three readings and select committee stages. I'm keen to say my piece on this issue: if I'd been given useful information on being transgender as a teenager, I think that would have made a huge difference to my high school experience. I know that anecdotally Wellington High School is very progressive regarding students and diverse gender identities, and that's probably been brought about by those changes that occurred during the first term of the Labour-NZ First-Green government. Plus, of course, there's my song cycle... that's something which wasn't really designed for teens, but is probably something that is useful to show to teens, as it's not particularly explicit regarding gender or sex. Like, outside of Your Scent, the song lyrics are fairly vague and there's no mention of the word 'trans' or 'gender minorities' ... the images are lesbian, though, but that's usually a safer bet than gay imagery regarding those types of people. Either way, I think it smells like an attempt to erase sexual and gender minorities, and that's something that we can fight via showing up to Parliament and facing down those people that oppose us. 🏳️‍⚧️
