NZ cultural cringe

My theory is that it seems to go in cycles. Like, when I grew up in the late 1990's and the 2000's, people were into NZ songs and everyone knew them. That's when Nature's Best came out. In the 2010's however, I think that our stuff was unusual; everyone else was chasing that pop success that Lorde and Alodus Harding had. I guess that's true of Bret and Jemaine as well: all the NZ stuff got cut out of the HBO show.


There's a whole cottage industry based around imitating Dunedin Rock, but even that has a lot of LA influences (imo). Like, Vera Ellen is basically an LA act.
