That's an American term for being cheapskates. That's how I feel about my enemies: people with houses, liveable incomes, job security, families and friends that aren't petrified to talk to them attempted to acquire my script for free. Their justifications are pathetic: sorry, but moral rights don't enter into IP law, except for the creator, and a script written about you is still the property of the person that wrote the script, particularly given that Jade isn't named after any of my friends. Sorry that you're too cheap to pay me the $50,000, but it was explicitly and very clearly developed as a series, not as a feature script. I wrote 4 episodes: an 'hour-long' pilot and three half-hour episodes. That is worth $60,000 according to the Film Commission. - I was willing to sell, but now I'm completely unwilling to sell Tina. Unless my sale price is met, and it comes with a public apology for the transphobia that VUW and many others perpetuated in their attempts to steal my script. That is the only way they can make that feature, and it comes with very specific caveats. You cannot use my body, my voice or my songs.

That is also non-negotiable. That is the only possible outcome. Is that acceptable, Michelle? - 'Re: Moral Rights Yes, moral rights do affect intellectual property law in New Zealand. Moral rights are part of copyright law and are designed to protect the personal and reputational interests of the creator of a work. In New Zealand, moral rights are enshrined in the Copyright Act 1994.

The key moral rights provided under this Act include:

  1. Right of Attribution: The right to be identified as the author or creator of a work.

  2. Right Against False Attribution: The right to prevent someone else from being falsely credited as the author or creator.

  3. Right of Integrity: The right to object to derogatory treatment of the work that could harm the author's honor or reputation.

These rights are separate from the economic rights associated with copyright (such as the right to reproduce, distribute, or perform the work) and cannot be sold or transferred, although they can be waived. Moral rights ensure that creators maintain a connection with their work and protect their personal and reputational interests, even if they no longer hold the economic rights to the work.' Sorry, but the only possible outcome that I can see in collaborating on Tina is people affecting my reputation by rewriting it to suit their goals. That is why I offered to sell, and was very firm on that in 2023. Now, however, I'm actually rescinding the offer. $50,000 is a non-negotiable fee, and now it's not just for the script, but also for the 7 chapters of the book-in-progress. You have consistently refused to meet this sale price, so I'm rescinding the offer and VUW will have to find another person (ideally a faculty member) to rip me off and rewrite it into something that doesn't infringe on my copyrights. Even the faintest fraction of copyright infringement, and I will take you to court. That, Michelle, is how I feel about your attempts to make 'anything' -- I refuse to speak to you until you apologise for that. You had no right to try and force me to make a film and most of what VUW told you about me is half-truths. I honestly want a public apology for this acrimonious negotiation. I was very blunt and plain in April 2023 what was required, which was a sale price and an understanding that I alone had the right to judge my screen test, and my opinion was the only opinion that actually counted regarding the Big Smoke. My opinion was that I couldn't carry the film, and the Dakumentary proves it: that film is only compelling because it's completely 'real' ... it's not my performance that shines, but the way that we used media to tell that story. I'm also not done with this protest until Tory publicly apologises for that hui. The transphobia related to a role that I wrote to clarify for all the bigots in Wellington that tried to put me in prison ended up perpetuating far more transphobia! Here's how you lot sound to me: "well, we fucking hate that script, Amanda, but we want to exploit your fashion sense, your sound and your criminal background in order to make us look hip, tolerant and with-it' That is why VUW will quit now. I wasn't enrolled, I'm not their property, and piss off is something that loses its meaning when you've said it a thousand times.
