So, yes, I told Meesh that I was going to base a character on her. I mentioned it in 2019, and then she told me that Ethan had recently done that in a play that he'd produced and she'd hated that, so I told her that she'd be really cool in my story. I think Jade fulfils that brief, and hence why I say that I wrote a screenplay that I thought she would like, but then I felt that was too nice. - Whether our relationship was really like that... sort-of: both characters are idealised. As you can see from our respective screenplays, it was quite a different dynamic to the one that Stephen and Michelle had. Like, they worked together a lot, whereas I mostly socialised with Michelle. - There's lots of Kiwiana references in The Dakumentary, including The Front Lawn but hardly limited to that. The folk songs and imagery is soaked in NZ culture: episode 4's April Sun in Cuba reference was a fluke, but I ran with it. I think Chloe's more into the Kiwiana stuff than I am.
