It's not emergency housing

It’s one step up from that. It’s a boarding house, but it’s not an emergency one and lots of people live there.

Including Rodger Fox. The upstairs rooms are much nicer and have ensuite bathrooms, but are too pricey for me.

I’m right beside the bathroom, so it’s pretty good, though that has downsides .. I never knew toilet bowls were so loud!

Writing-wise, though, it’s been a great space. That’s what I envisioned when I moved in: my fantasy of being a writer in a hotel like Tennessee Williams.

It’s a weekly rental, though, rather than a lease. $250 p.w. - inclusive of power and internet.

If I was rich: I’d do the same thing, but in a real hotel with room service (which would probably be cheaper than Uber Eats).

That’d be more my Howard Hughes phase, though .. lol

Flatting isn’t my vision of the future: I’ve much preferred this overall - I know people in my building, but it’s a big place, and I feel anonymous among the crowd.

I don’t want to share the love: I’m fine with playing in my room, because then I have control and ultimately I’m my own biggest fan (and enemy) - I listen to my own records quite a lot.

I guess it’s a bit like the Beatles: we played around town a fair amount for a couple of years, but now I’ve spent a few years on studio albums and my erotica.

Why do I work in my room?

Public space opens up far more opportunities for manipulation and spies. Ironically, Parliament itself is a fairly secure working environment. All it takes is one SIS person or one disgruntled friend
