I'm certainly not expecting the queer community en masse to give much of a shit about my issue, but it's important.

In fact, I'm sort-of counting on the flashier issues to steal all the spotlight, which allows this quirky little oddity to slip through on arguments like free expression and explicit protections for a group that isn't protected from hate speech. One might also see it as a challenge to queer workplaces. Like, how often have you thought of wearing something, but then changed your mind because it was too gay? In terms of Te Ao Māori, one might say that these laws reinforce some of the post-Missionary stereotypes about gender in the Māori world that are increasingly being challenged by people like Dr. Kerekere.
