Three of my English teachers from high school stand out: Ms. Seymour, Mr. Johnston(e?), and the guy from the Valves (who was my year 13 teacher). I'm not good with remembering names... Mr. Johnstone was a former National candidate and loved Sargeson's stories. And I felt like his class in Year 12 was when I learned about poetry.

To the grammar nazis

Quotations and punctuation: Lillian still got it wrong. In New Zealand English, we use inverted commas, not speech marks. I was taught to put those after a full stop. It's still part of the sentence
