Dakumentary - interval 1 thoughts

I forgot to set the stopwatch until I've Got You Under My Skin, but it's around 110 minutes for the first 3 episodes. I've had a celebratory cone, but I'm grinding up more weed while my monologue uploads. The Chloe episode is better with the songs, though it hadn't occurred to me to place my Bluegrass set into that episode until after I added Ok Chloe. This is what 'iterative' means. - For the people following along closely: If you think feature editing is OCD, wait till you try colour grading.. that's another craft that a filmmaker of today should be fluent in -- Ben Zolno graded his film, and the test grade for POAK was mine. I read several grading manuals and some colour theory books when I was a student.

Bad Man looks shit because I wasn't allowed to consult on the DPing .. Ethan was protective of his baby, and Stephen desaturated the colours. Meesh typically shoots quite a high-contrast palette with saturated colours. - I'm not cringing at my voice atm. Though I'll probs cringe now that I'm high.

I find high me is the most astute critic re: tonal qualities.

When I was sober, my impersonations weren't anywhere near as good. I've always been decent at that, but yeah the stoner culture is primarily oral, plus there's lots of bros.

The echolalia thing is bog-standard for Polynesians .. apparently they shocked the British troops during the NZ wars with spot-on impressions of their military commands. 🤣

My grading skills are good, but I'm limited by my machines. Motion tracking etc. is beyond the powers of a prosumer laptop. I reckon the news agencies use AI grading tools these days.. I saw a demo and it looked like newsfilm.

stoner thought: 'it's not what you say, it's the way you say it.' Yeah, that's called subtext. That's what musicals are all about .. but what's funny about the Dakumentary is that's it's not subtext: it's text. though the black screen invites the audience to add subtext. I dunno why that's my defining trait as a filmmaker, but I'm guessing the Hōtere documentary is part of why. I saw that during my 2021 binge. I think my documentary is like a tabula rasa that stoners project their lived experiences onto. Which means people want to know about why I smoke weed: well, I have a medical prescription for CBD for anxiety, but I smoke psychoactive weed for the dissociative effects... it helps me…
