Dear Aotearoa,

Cease and Desist Letter

I am writing to you on behalf of Amanda Riddell, whose address is 18 Earp Street, Johnsonville, Wellington. It has come to our attention that there have been instances where individuals have attempted to pressure Amanda into producing her autobiographical screenplay or performing original compositions of hers.

We hereby demand that you and anyone associated with you cease and desist from any further attempts to pressure, coerce, or influence Amanda Riddell into producing her screenplay or performing her original compositions.

We wish to remind you that Amanda Riddell's works are protected under the Copyright Act 1994, and as such, any unauthorised use, reproduction, or distribution of her works is a violation of her legal rights. Amanda's chosen profession is as a composer and writer, and she expects to be compensated for her creative works, whether she chooses to perform them or not. While she acknowledges that performing her compositions can be lucrative, Amanda firmly believes that she has the right to choose when and for whom she performs.

Additionally, Amanda is currently adapting her screenplay into a series of prose vignettes, which is her legal right as the creator of the original work. We expect that you - and other vultures - will respect Amanda's decision to adapt her work in this manner.

Failure to comply with this cease and desist letter will result in further legal action to enforce Amanda Riddell's rights under the Copyright Act 1994 and other relevant laws.

We trust that you will respect Amanda Riddell's rights and refrain from any further attempts to pressure her into actions that she is not comfortable with or that infringe upon her legal rights.

Sincerely,

Amanda Michelina's Progressive Party. 👍 - I like singer-songwriters, but personally I'm more into shows in terms of what I compose. I mean, Shipwrecked is like my rock score, but my other ideas are all more avant-garde. Very open to talking about movie scoring gigs: that's a way that Alice could meet me, given that Starstruck has that jazzy quality.

More on film scoring: Well, that's also a really good way of meeting musicians. I mean, for the most part my scores are either synths or things that we built up part-by-part with clicks. Portrait of a Knight is the obvious exception to that, and that was a really conscious decision to get the sound that Ken and I were keen on. I actually forgot to go to L'Enfant et les sortileges, though it was produced when I was at uni, which is odd given that I love Ravel. That's 20 players, and that was $8,000. The orchestra had a mix of NZSO, Orchestra Wellington, NZSM and one or two freelancers. Everyone got $150 per call, I think, and we had 2…
