Well, I wouldn't be much of a dramatic songwriter if I couldn't inhabit other characters. I had a bit of difficulty writing the tenor part of These Words Are Meant For Someone. The sound in my head wasn't what any of the tenors were doing, so eventually I got to the age where my voice was able to do it (so I did). As I said in another blog, though it feels very emotional, writing an opera is still much like composing any piece of music: there are procedures that one follows for their effect. What I'm enjoying is writing a genuine bass role for Dorerame, and possibly Djoaidi so that the same guy can play both.
