That's what they tell me. Starkey was their mother's maiden name. It was the 1940's. Richard, the younger brother, was bright so he went to school while Michael (Ringo) was extremely ill. They used Michael's name to enrol Richard, so they switched names. John and Ringo were mates because they went to school together for a year.
