I think that's what the right-wing coalition has been showing this week. The Nats are deliberately evading the media on one of their key policies, and Act went on a classic beneficiary-bashing spree today.
My impression of the general mood in Wellington is that landlords and the wealthy are emboldened by the poll results, while most of the city appears depressed.
For me, this shift to the right is quite scary. Act are the wankers who host Speak Up For Women, NZ First is on the whole 'women's bathrooms' kick, and National haven't said anything strongly positive about trans rights.
I've worked bloody hard to establish myself as a trannie, and the idea that this could wipe all that out is freaking me out. Much as in 2020, it feels like my life is a subject of debate.
Word choice note: Dave Roil prefers 'life' to 'lifestyle' - it's a subtle distinction, but important here: I'm out as trans, but my life is much richer than what's in my pants or how much dope do you smoke or any of those stupid questions.
I'm not doing my thing on TV. I'm trying to win a policy battle IRL, and I think FB is a better medium. My real stunt of attending Parliament is my main way of pushing the kaupapa.
Or maybe my book: those really seem to influence the chattering classes and the power-brokers! 🤣
