It also declutters notation, as it gives composers a prediction without fully articulating it. Most performers hate the overarticulated scores of modern composers. - Articulation is mostly copy-and-paste anyway, and it tends to make people nervous. Compare the notation of my string quartet to that of most new string quartets... Mine is closer to an old-school quartet score. - While composers still believe in interpreter-executant, most performers reject it. They want to use their skills to phrase reasonably articulated music in their idiom. Perhaps the Sony Beatles wannabes should've actually typed it into Google?
