I haven't sat through the whole thing for a few days, but the subtle changes I've made to the first 3 episodes seemed to work ok. As for the American songs: as I said in the Weeded Out fiction scripts, we're constantly making and remaking culture in our own image.

Jazz is pretty much the stoner artform re: music, and they're mostly songs that jazz fans would recognise. šŸ‘ - Plus, as I like to point out, nobody bitches about the lady singing 500 miles in Dak Headroom; that's an American accent too, but again it's show tunes that prick people's ears as 'American.' Hell, Paul McCartney got famous singing about Americans and American themes in an American accent. My challenge to people is to try and sing, and see what accent they sing in... šŸ‘‹ - As for my own spoken accent - it's Mid-Atlantic, which is the fancy way of saying it's a hybrid of American and British (plus Kiwi and Aussie). That's a byproduct of my classical training and my love of old movies. Mid-Atlantic was the accent the elocution teachers invented for 1930's Hollywood .. it's a sound that projects well, so it picked up on the ancient microphones of early talkies. For a more recent example, Frasier is a good demonstration of the Mid-Atlantic accent. - Dakta's accent is also a hybrid - he spent large chunks of his life in Aussie and the US. To me, the fascinating thing is that people think Chloe's accent is 'local', while I hear lots of British in her voice .. Kiwis are still genuflecting to the mother country lol. šŸ¤ - But yeah, I think the key thing that's fascinating about the Dak film is the culture shock of the young generation finding their voice through our own heritage. As for both of us using American slang - our generation likes to show off how cultured we are (with 'cultured' typically meaning US pop culture), plus queer identities are built in opposition to straight society. - Queen's English just came on .. that's another Don song that I wish I'd written. I wish there were more bros in the Dak film, but due to the fuzz targeting brown people, it's mostly white guys. Funnily enough, Jacob told me he wanted to do the cannabis cause because it was one of the few causes where a white guy could lead the charge; I'd never really thought about that until he mentioned it. 🤣
