What you're calling ego is what I'd call affirming myself when society wasn't. Nobody was calling me Amanda, so I started doing so. People thought I was a retard en femme, so I wrote some serious pieces. Affirming myself both as a whakawahine and as a composer. Being confident in my own abilities is one of my traits.
